Governments, or officials are trying to make swine flu shots mandatory for their citizens and stockpiling new un-experimented swine flu vaccines; media is delivering mixed messages about cons and pros of swine flu vaccination which is causing conundrum for regular people while drug companies and some other are making billions of dollars.
The conflict starts at Capitol Hill; Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh, Republican senators have recently spoken out against government direction on the H1N1 vaccine, saying that individuals should make up their own minds whether to get vaccinated or not (Rushing, 2009). Several studies suggest up to 60% of health practitioners would oppose being immunized because they are concerned the safety trials will be rushed (Boseley, 2009). However, health officials taking the power and support from government still insist that all health professionals must get the swine flu vaccination. For New York, the deadline is November 30th, 2009 and if a health worker does not follow the state mandate, they can lose their jobs (Byrne, 2009).

Swine flu, as referred to publicly, is also less popularly known as pig influenza, swine influenza, hog flu and pig flu, which is a respiratory infection caused by an influenza virus. The reasons it is referred to as swine flu is because the genes in this new virus were very similar to influenza viruses that normally occur in pigs or in other words swine in North America. However, contrary to public perception, it was observed scientifically that this new virus has two genes from flu viruses that normally circulate in pigs in Europe and Asia and bird (avian) genes and human genes (CDC, 2009 H1N1 Flu ("Swine Flu") and You, 2009).
